Make Mine A Quadruple

posted by Wendy March 5, 2017 0 comments

One of my first loves from this line, Charlotte Tilbury Goddess Skin Clay Mask – Cleanser, Mask & Balm – 75ml changed My Life In Makeup forever (go back a few posts to read me rave about it), so you can imagine how I feel about this one.

It might look a fright but the results are worth it!

New from the magic Makeup Artist Tilbury is the revolutionary Instant Magic Facial Dry Sheet Mask, which promises, and delivers, facial-like results in fifteen minutes. This new mask features ingredients which are clinically proven (tested on humans) to reduce wrinkles and to smooth, brighten, lift and hydrate your skin.

This is what makes the new dry mask so unique:

  • it has a BIO-MIMETIC VECTOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (sounds complicated. It is)that allows for a prolonged release of active ingredients and powers them into the epidermis.
  • it has an in-built technological 5 Skin Solution IQ which tailors to your skin, feeding it exactly what it needs.
  • Vitamin B3 brightens the skin, while Plant Stem Cell Matrix lifts and decreases wrinkles.
  • it’s a DRY textile mask with active ingredients imprinted on it, you can use it up to 3 times. Amazing.
  • the burst release effects of this mask last for up to 8 HOURS.
  • It has a higher DOSAGE of active ingredients and the most potent delivery system.
  • it give gorgeous, glowing skin that is hydrated and revitalized.
  • the silly selfie opportunities are limitless

Very importantly, this mask is more Hannibal-like than others on the market, so it’s good for frightening your significant others on mask days!

I heartily recommend making masking a regular part of your beauty routine. Pick a day a week for exfoliation, and a day for masking. It can be the same day for both, why not make it your beauty day? I do mine on Sunday but have a friend who insists that Thursday is better so she looks good for the weekend. She has a point! Doing them together makes it easier to remember to do both, and exfoliating your skin beforehand will enhance the benefits of a mask. Fit these two treatments into your regular skincare routine and you will see and feel a difference immediately, which will keep you at it. I also add a mask for clients before special events, whatever they may be.  They are very easy and fun to use. Put some relaxing music on, have a soothing tea (skip the wine) and you’re on the way to a beautiful day:

1..2..3..4.. voila! Beautiful skin but sadly not guaranteed to give you hair like that.

The mask also comes in a four-pack, which is a fantastic idea. It’s marv to have masks on hand, and being able to use each one multiple times is rather brilliant (be sure to seal the packaging up after each use). These are going to be wonderful to have for holidays, destination weddings, or any travelling you want or have to do. Alternatively, split the cost and have a girls night in and mask with friends. Boys are also allowed to try them.

The multipacks are in my shopping basket for clients but I want to keep them for myself!

A Golden Investment

My Dad has always advised me to invest in gold. And he is always right.

Hallelulah! Charlotte Tilbury Bar of Gold – Skin Highlighter is back. Another cult item that sold out quickly so I’m overjoyed it’s in stock again- I gave mine away, to a beautiful person. I wasn’t too sad because I knew it was going to a good home.

It’s the most beautiful highlighter and the best way to gild the lily, whatever your skintone. Not to mention it looks amazing on the dressing table! The Bar of Gold contains light-reflecting ingredients to cheer up dull skin and sculpt; it’s also marv for adding a glow, blurring imperfections and adding that special glamourous finish to your look. Use a big brush to sweep it across your cheekbones, forehead, décolletage -and a smaller brush to use it as an eyeshadow, by itself or as a”pop” over your other colours. I use a fingerprint of it in the centre of the lips to boost lip volume.

Recently, on the most amazing project I designed for ABC Studios (I say this proudly because of the subject matter), WHEN WE RISE (coming soon to a screen near you at the end of Feb, at least in North America, not sure about it’s UK release) I had to recreate the look of American disco god, Sylvester. My investment in gold really paid off so thanks for the good advice Dad.

Mask On, Mask Off

posted by Wendy November 25, 2016 0 comments

I saw this sign on the streets of Bristol this summer and it made me laugh and cry at the same time!

Do we all have mornings when we are just knackered, or is it just me?! A poor sleep, a relentless schedule, being a contestant on “Strictly”, having the kids all ill at the same time, or even if the dish has run away with the spoon; whatever the reason, these mornings are a part of our lives and for me they mean my skin looks and feels fairly bla. It’s Sods Law it’s the days we look the most tired that we need to look our best- an interview, date night or perhaps you’re picking someone special from the airport. OR maybe there’s nothing special going on, you just want to look half decent and go about your day.

Whatever your reason for wanting to improve on “paper-bag face” there’s a certain something I now keep on hand to help. All you need is ten minutes and a bit of facial massage and you’ll see less paper and more pretty. It’s yet another Charlotte Tilbury product, her Goddess Skin Clay Mask and I have to say I quite love it! I know I go on and on about this line but that’s because I’ve discovered some truly outstanding things from it.  You’ll see by the state of the packaging that it’s well used and I’m not talking out of my…mask.

Standing by for a skincare 911 call, my Goddess Skin Clay Mask

Standing by for a skincare 911 call, my Goddess Skin Clay Mask

I was persuaded to try the mask by Miss Tilbury (“and the Award for Name Dropping goes to….”!) herself when during conversation my dialogue veered towards how tired I felt which happens in most conversations these days (16-hour days will do that to a person). Hence a suggestion to try the mask…always the sceptic, but ever the optimist, I did, using the sample packet available from any CT counter, and was very pleasantly surprised. I normally stay away from clay masks because I have dry skin but the addition of oils to this one make it a very soothing product and I’m not left with that “tight” after-mask feeling. I am now a convert and keep this on my top shelf for skin 911 situations.

Charlotte Tilbury developed the mask with her team of scientist and with a large dollop of inspiration from Ibizan women who had beautiful skin into their old age, and who swore by daily clay masks. Here’s the blurb, from the CT website:

“This supercharged Goddess Skin Clay Mask is based on an ancient Mediterranean beauty recipe, which combines gentle yet nutrient-rich Spanish clay with Sweet Almond Oil, prized for its nourishing properties.

Working with the world’s leading laboratories, I took this centuries-old remedy and added the latest anti-age breakthrough ingredients, such as the BioNymph Peptide Complex to create a glow-giving formula your complexion will drink in. Try it using my patented Tilbury Tap Pro-Collagen facial massage for boosted results. Celebrity facialists have been sharing the formula with their clients to use in between treatments leading up to a red carpet appearance. Now everyone can have flawless, glowing Goddess Skin – discover the rebirth of your skin, the results are breathtaking.

cream

The clay mask has a rich and creamy texture

• Spanish clay absorbs oil and helps draw out impurities without drying.

• Sweet Almond and Rosehip Oil nourish and delay signs of skin ageing.

• BioNymph Peptide Complex aids collagen production and improves elasticity.

• Essential oils create a smooth, hydrating formula that never feels chalky or dry.

• Frangipani Flower Extract boasts soothing antiseptic properties and leaves skin looking cashmere-soft”

This Is How You Do It:

On a dry face, apply a fairly generous layer of the creamy and fragrant mask, not getting too close to the eye area.

You too can look a bit Mrs Danvers with for mask on for ten minutes!

When you’re ready to wash it off, use warm, not hot, water, to emulsify the mask and start the massage technique, which goes something like this…

The facial massage part of the process is important so please don’t leave out this step as you rinse the mask off. You can do the massage in the shower the shower to save yourself a few minutes if time is of the essence. The process will encourage blood flow to the face (and neck) muscles and may even help to increase collagen production. Be gentle and always remember, Upwards and Outwards!

So Charlotte Tilbury Cosmetics has just announced their top-selling/award-winning products and I was a bit shocked that this wasn’t one of them, hence the honorary mention today.  I’ll comment on the winners in due course but I think this should be near the top of the list. It is gentle enough to use on a daily basis if needs be, apparently that’s what those glorious women of Ibiza did but I don’t think they were as busy as we are; I use it maybe three times a week and am happy with that.

The mask retails at a mid to high price point, but I do think the skincare in this line is remarkable value for your hard-earned money, and it’s certainly not at La Mer or Sisley prices. The one thing I have to mention is that the mask is quite fragrant, with frangipani oil as one of it’s ingredients, so if that’s an issue it might not be the mask for you. I do find it strong, but more pleasant than not and once the mask is off it dissipates as you go about your regular skincare and makeup routine. If you’re not sure whether you’d love it or not: remember to ask for a sample at the counter! and if you ever order anything from them online, you can request two free samples included with every purchase, quite a brilliant idea. You get a good amount in the sample packet, definitely enough to let you decide whether you want a full size one in your life.

Mask On, Mask Off Glossaholics, and grasshoppers! Here’s to more beautiful days and less “you still look tired” ones! By the way, people who like to tell you how tired you look deserve to be….shunned. At the very least. It’s never a compliment and as my grandma would have said, “if you’ve nothing nice to say…wax-on

Eye’ve Never Seen An Eye Cream Like It!

posted by Wendy January 12, 2016 2 Comments

If there is one word that can describe how I look and feel after a huge chunk of work followed immediately by Christmas, it is EXHAUSTED. If there’s one product that I wish would work miracles and that I’ve been looking for for about 5 years (when the eyes noticeably started to change), it’s an eye cream. I am amazed and very happy to report that EYE have found a miracle, and it is MAGIC EYE RESCUE from Charlotte Tilbury.

I say it’s a miracle because the difference between putting it on at night, and looking in the mirror in the morning, is visible and remarkable, and that has never happened before. I have used very good eye creams and have spent probably too much money on them. They may have helped to stop the hand of time with regular and continued use, but none has made me look feel so much better and confident by the next morning.

To start on the road to rescue, use a pea-sized amount of M.E.R and gently dot under the eyes on the top of the cheekbones using your two ring fingers. Tap gently around the eye area and orbital bone. Keep tapping. Also a great work out for the eyes and gets the blood flowing. Then gently tap above the eyes across the brow bones and repeat the tapping in a circular motion all around the eyes to help reduce puffiness and allow the cream to do its thang. There is a video on the CT website to show you how to do this.

Here’s what I noticed after Night One:

  • the lines under my eyes were SMOOTHED out. Not every single one of them, but enough that it looked very different!
  • the darkness under my eyes (half genetic/ half dust allergy) was visibly reduced
  • the dryness (I believe the term is “crepe”, tres francais) was gone –  skin looked plumped up and glory! Plump is not my favourite word but I don’t mind a bit of plump under the eyes
  • I not only looked better, I could really FEEL the difference – the delicate skin around my eyes felt tighter and lifted. I am (so far) a Botox-Free Beauty Obsessive, BFBO, so I am very happy about finding something that delivers all these things but doesn’t require injections!

Magic Eye Rescue has a really pleasant, light as air, texture – with a good tack to it so it stays in place All Night Long, cue Lionel Ritchie. I am someone who cannot sleep without an eye mask so the fact it survived the night under my eye mask is in itself incredible. In the morning you can feel that is it still on your skin. It is less fragrant than a couple of the other products, still infused with frangipani but a bit less….well, fragrant. Which I appreciate. It is loaded with yummy moisture stuff.  Go to A CT counter and try a bit on your hand. You will see how much glow and glisten is deposited on your skin.

Don’t forget to train yourself to sleep on your back for a better face and eyes in the morning. If it’s too late to change your ways, get silk pillowcases.

I messaged Charlotte the first time I used it to tell her she had turned back my clock. I thought I was being quite clever with my turn of phrase….And that, dear readers, honestly and truly, was BEFORE I read the packaging on the box. It actually says : Eye Cream to Turn Back the Clock. Great minds think alike, obviously!

My worst eye cream story was using a very well-known one after a long flight in the hope that I’d be all fab for the first day of my action-packed business/pleasure trip.  When I woke up in my hotel room at The Paramount (name-dropper but it’s so good there in a Eurotrash way you have to try it; by the way Paramount, why ON EARTH did you get rid of the Marc Newson Lockheed chair that used to be in the lobby?! I was so looking forward to seeing it. Is it because the last one went for over $2million at auction…), my eyes were so puffed up I couldn’t open them.

The amazing Lockheed Chair by Marc Newson

The amazing Lockheed Chair by Marc Newson

Thankfully the room was the size of a shoebox so I didn’t have far to stumble to the loo to douse my eyes with cold water in order to see again. I  looked a wreck most of the day, my eyes were so swollen that my eyelash curler couldn’t even for onto my lashes. No wonder Ewan McGregor walked right past without declaring his undying love. Disaster! Haha. Not entirely sure what the point of sharing my calamitous story is, but, do need to say, that this eye cream delivers without having to load it on or spend a small fortune. I have been using it for five days now and am very happy still. Go try it if you are still on the search for a great eye cream. I am now using it around my lipline and the good ol “laugh lines”, nasal-labial lines if you want to be scientific, those ones that run from nose to mouth. I’m going to put it all over my whole body and see what happens! Does it come in a bucket size?

I had to look into what makes it so good. Here is the science behind it from her website:

“Skin-saviour Saccharide Isomerate is like an isotonic energy drink for your skin! It has water-retaining properties, which after long-term use may help with smoother and firmer beautifully soft skin.
Age-defying Botanical Eye Contour Complex contains rice & soy peptides, plus yeast protein, which help to brighten dark circles, reduce puffiness and improve skin texture.
Time Released Retinol molecules are another anti-age hero that helps to boost the rejuvenation process of skin cells, whilst stimulating the collagen content through out the skin to appear younger and more radiant, as if lit from within.
Winter Daphne Stem Cell Extract benefits the binding of skin cells to mimic the skin’s natural structure for a more youthful-looking, firmer-feeling complexion.
The rich texture of my cream-elixir contains a live second skin Red Algae Marigel, which is rich in Calcium and Magnesium, for smooth, soft skin with a protective barrier against environmental and ageing damage.
The magical ingredient also found in my Magic Cream, BioNymph Peptide is a genius, patented anti-ageing hero that may stimulate collagen production, fight free radicals, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and boost skin elasticity.
Frangipani nourishes and soothes the complexion.
Powerful anti-oxidant Vitamin E”

BioNymph?! Well it must do magic then.

Magic Eye Rescue retails for $US 65.00 for .50 fl oz/ 15ml . If you’re reading this outside of Canada, come here to stock up, you’ll save a fortune! The Canadian dollar is down again. No wonder they’re called loonies. I got mine at Holt Renfrew for $CDN 65.00

Dear readers, I am going to go on and on about this new line of gorgeous makeup and skin care. I am also in love with the new Magic Night Cream. Perhaps I should just have a Charlotte Tilbury Month and get it all out. One of the reasons I love her line, which is new to North America, is that she is as obsessed with skin care and glowing skin as I am.  Anyone who knows my work will know that I am NOT a fan of heavy face makeup that looks like a mask, or dry, powdery products. Ugh. So great skin, the best that we can achieve, becomes really important, and is really important to my makeups. And I am finding, with all the CT products, that they give us that. Long may she continue.

So tonight the Golden Globe for Gorgeous goes to…
