Cover Me

Yesterday NARS launched UNDERCOVER, it’s limited edition Summer Collection for 2016. I think it’s worth checking out.

Inspired by the sensational whirl of an editorial photo shoot” and with fun and feminine packaging featuring original illustrations by artist Konstantin Kakanias, there are some great new products here to add to your summer makeup bag. And if you do not already own their classic bronzer, Laguna, recently rebooted by another limited edition with monoi oil and a mini kabuki brush, then get one before they’re gone. It’s instant summer. Tahiti time!

Added to the already much-admired dual intensity eyeshadow line are some beautiful new colours, two of which are on my must-have list. “Tan Lines”, a rich hazelnut and “Deep End” a shimmering teal green are going to give me summer party eyes this season. By the way, they are dual intensity because they can be used dry or wet for different strengths.

Two more blushes colours in the dual-intensity line complete the picture. Both are gorge – I’m already mad about Sexual Content (ooooh, pardon me) which gives you glow and colour at the same time. So I’m well happy with that. I only use it as a dry blush.

The new product in this summer collection is Lip Cover, which I took for a test-drive. Is it a matte? Is it a gloss? Continue reading to find out…

I tested Lip Cover in “Get Dirty”, a classic tone with a touch of nude and a touch of rose. It’s the kind of colour that would suit lots of skin tones. In the pursuit of good beauty testing and ridiculous behaviour, I decided to really put it to the test, by wearing it to two of my day-off pursuits. Going to the gym and drinking lots of coffee.

Lip Cover comes in a lipgloss-esque package, with a stick applicator in a long tube. Easy to apply but sneakingly deceptive! Because what you get is a full-cover soft matte (I’m going to call it flexible matte) lip product. Fancy that!

I got geared up for the gym and opened the cute packet.

The Results Are In: It should come as no surprise that I am a glossaholic. Soft shine is kinda my thing, so as much as I admire a new product that gives a great dose of colour and coverage, it isn’t really going to get my attention as much as it wants to. I am very happy that lipstick is really back (proper lipstick is showing up in many lines and all over the runways and editorials) and yes I do opt for them from time to time, but then I go with a really bold colour in a real matte for maximum impact. This one is a bit-neither-here-nor-there for me personally, but I bet it will please loads of women and be part of their work and weekend makeup wardrobe. It’s got a lovely texture, not too dry, goes on easily and lasts ages, all points in it’s favour. There are only four colours of Lip Cover and they’re a little middle of the road, so worth a try if you want a soft matte in an everyday colour that stays put.

P.S I’ll be the one in the glammed-up eye and the nude lipgloss for summer xo
